Thank you to all who came out to the Animal Tracking by Snowshoe event!

Rich Bard, our guide, did an excellent job teaching the group about animal tracking.  Thanks, Rich!  While we didn't use our snowshoes (but sometimes wished we had) it was a beautiful day to traverse the snow-filled trails of Tide Mill Creek.  Those who went furthest down the trail had a great time basking in the sun on the creek's still-frozen shores.  Here are some photos courtesy of Roger Clapp and Craig Snapp:

Ingersoll Point Project in South Addison nears completion

On December 29th, Downeast Coastal Conservancy acquired 130 acres and 4,730 feet of undeveloped shoreline in South Addison at Ingersoll Point and Carrying Place Cove.  This project is part of the broader  Heads of the Estuaries Partnership that includes our conservation partners Pleasant River Wildlife Foundation and Maine Coast Heritage Trust among others. Funds to purchase Ingersoll Point were provided through a grant from the Land for Maine's Future Program. We also received a generous gift of land from one of the landowners.

Ingersoll Point is now open to the public for use and enjoyment. Area residents already enjoy the existing woods trails on the property and the spectacular view from the point where you can see across Wohoa Bay  to the Beals Island/Jonesport bridge.

We will begin work on a natural resource evaluation and management plan in the Spring and Summer of 2010 and additional trails will follow. We will also need local stewards and work crews so please contact the office at (207) 255-4500 or info@downeastcoastalconservancy.org if you are interested.

While all  funds were raised for the purchase, we continue to accept Stewardship Fund donations. All donations to the Stewardship Fund will be matched 1:1 by the Maine Community Foundation 25/25 Challenge until April 2010. Please consider a gift to this worthwhile fund in addition to your Annual Fund gift amount. With these funds we plan to add new hiking trails and provide educational opportunities that  promote use and enjoyment by residents and visitors.
