Our Work
The mission of the Downeast Coastal Conservancy is the conservation of the natural habitats and resources of the watersheds and communities of coastal Washington County, Maine, for present and future generations.
We accomplish our mission through:
- Land Protection: Working proactively and cooperatively with willing landowners to create a system of conservation lands throughout the Downeast coastal region.
- Land Stewardship & Easement Monitoring: Sustaining the natural and historic values of our conservation lands through a strong stewardship program based on monitoring and active land management.
- Public Access: Providing opportunities for the public to access and explore natural places and securing traditional access to our land and water resources.
- Outreach & Education: Promoting public awareness of and support for land conservation through a broad outreach effort, outings, and environmental education programs.
- Collaboration: Collaborating with key stakeholders and willing landowners to protect the natural resources in our communities and respond to regional conservation opportunities.
- Volunteer Engagement: Engaging volunteers to help implement our conservation work and building a conservation ethic.
